Trip to Home

One more hour and I’ll be home…
Gone four days, but it seems much more
Maybe the traffic’s speed has sped up my thought
Or maybe this car ride’s serenity has stilled what I’ve fought

But one more hour and I’ll be home…
Oh, I’ve felt the separation of these hundreds of miles
And the unbounding of feelings this trip has brought
Exposing a new set of mixed emotions in which I’m now caught

Still one more hour and I’ll be home…
All these new sights lie between me and what I really see
Because through all the new, I’ve replayed the old in my head
Again and Again I’ve repeated what you and I have said

Only one more hour and I’ll be home…
How anxious I was and always will be to get away
But here I am, wanting to see my own bed
And foolishly wondering where this week has let you be led

Just one more hour and I’ll be home…
To see those whom I long to see and those whom I dread
And, there, I’m recognizing these landmarks at last
It’s amazing how this week has guided me through the past

Less than one hour; I’m almost home…
How this trip let me explore places I needed to roam
This trip helps me know what will and won’t last
The sign read twenty-six miles and this trip has gone by so fast.
