It’s nights like these
When I’d give anything to bring you back
Back to the place that was your home
Back into my world- this imperfect place
But no matter the lock, I lack the keys
To understand the complexity of what we lack
Lack here in this world we’ve been given to roam…
Until the crack grows and separates life from death
You’re up above, I’m told, so much happier now
No gravity to weigh you down or sin to fight
No lies, hate, envy, or strife to shake
You, my grandpa, were so much to me, so much to how
I grew up, knowing there was kindness, joy, and light
You gave me direction to do what was right
This life is like diving into a lake:
We jump into life, swim it through,
And, eventually, at the bottom we’ll rest
You followed the light throughout your life
Your time for swimming came and gone
But I’ll never forget you or your love
Your memory will always be part of what keeps me afloat
Until the day when the tide finally comes in
And I join you finally free from strife
I hope you know you’re in my song
And times as fleeting, but as beautiful as this emotion
So I took this 1:35am to write you another goodbye love note
