Circadian Rhythm

In this moment, in this home, in this place…
I am grateful:
Grateful for days which sometimes bring bliss
And for hours of pain which create evolution and newness.

With my husband, with my family, with my friends…
I am thankful:
Thankful for listening ears when my heart can’t hold anymore sound
And the handshakes, hugs, and kisses
Which show we can choose to ensure love still abounds.

Within these changes, within these moves, within these choices…
I am grateful:
Grateful for the minutes which sometimes become prized trophies on shelves
And for the hours of struggles
Which help us find and reshape our better selves.

For our tomorrow, for our goals, for our forever…
I am thankful:
Thankful I can call you—all of this—my blessings
And for the hope which gets us through
When our faith breaks, bites, and stings.

On this earth, on this continent, on this couch,
I am grateful:
Grateful for nature and mankind’s interconnected system
And the comfort of progress and change in the midst of repetition--
Which all come through our wild, harsh, and encompassing circadian rhythm.
