Their eyes are penetrating each other:
Each one inferring the other’s answer
To an implied question to be answered at a later time.
They both have red eyes and vaulted lips
Which hold the deepening damn at bay.
Neither one can touch the rivers twisting underground;
For on the surface, the space appears a frozen lake.
But that lake is made of ice and is cracking through.
Neither notice the other’s reaching
To just touch the drowning metal walls
But even their souls’ termites can’t make this rust away.
Their Strained eyes rub like friction.
The two hear the silence
Which separates what they love.
