Doubter

So many say with such boundless faith
That they know everything
Happens for a reason in its chosen season.

I’ve never known if it means
I’m nothing more than a doubter.
But I look around and wonder
If outcomes aren’t just sometimes
Blind luck…

If defeats and successes
Aren’t just really a result of human error.

And yet I do see this world
For what I think it is.

I do believe that the bad,
just like the good,
Come to be through oh-so-human choices;
That we can choose to hurt one another;
That we can choose to hide and take;
Or we can choose to love and give.

Maybe faith can be trust in God’s power 
To choose to give us free will,
And to instill a sense of right and wrong
Which can still guide us as we live--

If we just have faith that
Right and wrong are true.
