To Have a Husband

This year, for the first time, I have a husband…

A man who helps me grow and go places I’ve never been

When I look back on all the years I spent

Worrying and crying over men for whom I paid unleased rent

I know how thankful I am to be lying here in this bed with you now:

With a man, who despite everything, earned my complete faith somehow

Five years ago, I would have said that there was no man to trust

But together we’ve worked to find beauty in all the cracks & rust

Everyday now I’m thankful to have you in my life

Thankful to be—and always know—I am your wife

Neither of us is perfect and we both have a lot to learn

But I know we’ll grow closer through every dip, step, & turn

I love you and I love how far our friendship, our love, has come

Remember, I’ll always love you when all is said and done.
