Better

I want to do better.

I want to see more.

I want to be more.

So why do I circle back

To this same mistake?

Why do I return

To the sentiments

I know will only bring regret?

 

I want us to do better.

I want us to see more.

I want us to be more.

So why do we retreat

Behind our habits

Which we know

Leave us feeling remorse?

Why do we kneel under

The weight of everything

We’ve said we’ll help

One another carry

So we don’t have

To be alone?

 

Let us do better.

Let us see more.

Let us be more.

As long as we

Are trying

And we reach

for each other

When all is said and done

We will build something better

Because we aren’t yet

Alone.
