I am in love with planning.
I grow close to the idea
Of what I think will be up Ahead.
I feel too deeply the rush
Of the anticipation of a life
Which will be better than
The one I've always led.
I take actions in this moment
To make sure I find a happy ending
Just like the ones in the books I've read.
But in all this forward thinking
I can grow distant From the very moments
Which create beauty in the present tense.
Others too often feel separated
From the body of myself in attendance
As my mind wanders to coming days
When I am convinced all of these
Hours of toil will finally make sense.
So how do I bring myself back
To the reality of the beauty around me?
When a planner looks ahead
She can miss the love enveloping
Her absent-minded worries
Consuming her silly head.
Let me feel you in this moment.
Help me trust in the joy of today.
Show me the blessings
Of nothing more than lying in
This present moment with you in our bed.
