It’s not how it’s meant to be
Nothing here turns out like it should
So much pain we feel but can’t see
And all that’s good here is misunderstood
So thank you, God, that this isn’t the end
That someday we’ll only cry tears of joy
With no filthy rags for us to mend
Or unwanted fences for us to defend
Here the good days still have hate
For at my best I’ll let you down
And if you come up, you’ll be too late
So we’ll keep tossing our words around
But thank you, God, that this isn’t what’s it
That someday we won’t hurt each other anymore
That with these fists we’ll no longer distinguish
The burning love you knew would always be lit
Thank You, Lord, that there’s so much more
Thank you for the hope that gives us faith
And thank you for the faith that gives us hope
Thank you for your love and all that’s more
Thank you that someday you’ll put an end to this war.
