As I see you lying right there,
With unencumbered, steady breathe,
Trust and comfort in this home,
You bring a peace that settles over me
To remind me
That in the midst of outer chaos,
We are blessed,
You and me.
Because despite all odds and all we’ve done wrong,
We found not any love, but our love,
In a harsh world that brings blow after blow.
We have a place to call our own
In a country that for good or bad, wrong or right,
Continues to curve and twist, go ahead and come back.
We know our truth
Despite everything we can’t change and still lack.
As I see you lying right there,
Unencumbered trust in this home,
You bring a peace that settles over me
To remind me
That in the midst of outer chaos,
We are blessed,
You and me.
