What could I write that would suffice
After a day that has put so much
Of what we take for granted on center stage?
What words could I choose to type
That would shed a small bit of light
On the sanctity, respect, and trust in a system
That must remain– and of which we can’t lose sight?
What truths could I remember that might allay
The growing fear that has been put on display?
What questions must we all now ask
To rebuild this once trusted system
For which so many have given to protect?
What could I write that would suffice
On the eve of a future
Where we must take so much less for granted
If we are to hold on to this life?
