Tonight can we remember what we once were?
Can we recall
When youth kept us up all night
And wild hopes ran uninhibited, wild, with rampage
Through a town we said would never be enough?
Can we hold for one more moment
Those minutes, hours, days of happiness
Built upon nothing more than coffee chats and midnight rides
In the midst of chaos surrounding our lives?
Can we walk back into these memories
That have followed me around
Every apartment, city, and hallowed ground
I’ve stood upon throughout my days?
Tonight can we remember what we once were?
Can we recall
Why days slowly, tenderly, without warning,
Pulled us apart;
So I now relive these memories
In the middle of my sleepless nights?
