Boots

I wear these boots

To connect with the earth;

To travel paths not made by man;

To see them smothered in mud;

To feel them splash through a winding stream;

To make it to the other slide of the sludge

While the sun beams down and dries our excess;

To dig deeper into this dirt

That provides our livelihood

And supplies humankinds’ good.
