First Mow

It was that first mow of the year scent.

That new Spring aroma which potently fills your nose,

Encouraging you to inhale deeper

And pull out memories of past new beginnings

With every exhale released into the air.

It was that first mow of the year breeze.

That current that suddenly changes,

Bringing a warm air back up from the South

And vibrancy of sunshine

Peaking out between traveling clouds–

All once again proving

To be more than enough to plant fresh hope.

Last Saturday, I felt that first mow of the year vibrancy.

That excitement for a new season which

Settles within my being over the Fall

And hides out waiting, buried in the snow–

Perhaps hibernating underneath my frozen being–

Until the Spring thaws my doubt

To reveal a growing and overflowing stream.

It was that first mow of the year scent.
