Down

I feel more than down today

As the weight of this world

Pulls me to the ground

And I feel a dizziness

That only comes from being spun around;

Having my reality turned upside down.

I hide within a haziness that fogs my thoughts

And sit within a shroud of heaviness

That rings and echoes and fills my head

With stories I know aren’t true and facts I can’t change-

An enveloping history that drowns out new sounds.

I feel more than down today.

The weight of this world

Holds me to the ground

And dares me to rise back up

And replenish the hope I had once found.
