Recompense

Let your revenge not be full of malice.

Let your payback not take another’s good away.

Let your retribution be free of bitter tirades.

Instead, when someone wrongs you–

And my darling, and some point, someone will

Take advantage of who you are and try to be.

Someone will show you the selfishness and shortcomings of humanity-

But my darling, when that someone wrongs you,

Let your revenge take its toll

By becoming exactly who you know you were meant to be.

Let your reprisal provide you a clearer picture from the high road

As you look down at all the hurt through which you forged

And which forged you into a better human being.

Let your vengeance arise by overcoming what they did

And choosing to forgive so that you can go onto to live

The life that still remains beautiful and full.

My darling, when the time comes, don’t choose revenge

But let time recompense to each of us

The outcomes for which we strove

And your retribution will be slowly and steadily sown.

Let your revenge not be full of malice.

Let your payback not take another’s good away.

Let your retribution be free of bitter tirades;

For, all of this will be behind you someday.
