What a strange phrase that transcends
The best and worst moments of our lives.
“I’m surprised.”
Such a statement
Can never be enough
To describe the emotions
That flood our beings
When we uncover what we used to hide.
“I’m surprised.”
Oh, how that phrase
Can awaken excitement, fear,
Push our heart rate up,
And slow our wandering mind down.
But, oh, how that phrase,
Fails to prepare you for what comes next.
“I’m surprised.”
This discovery has done us both wrong.
But, oh, how this surprise
Elicits fresh emotions from our eyes.
