I fill my cup with boiling tea.
I slip on knitted socks.
I dim the lights, but turn on the lamp.
And I collapse onto this sofa
Without you next me.
Even in the most tranquil moments,
I see the emptiness left by your absence.
I feel the weight of carrying your memory.
I miss the simpler days
When there was nowhere else we wanted to be.
But within these melancholy minutes,
I also find moments of peace,
A second or two of acceptance
That you are no longer here with me.
Peace can bring tumultuous emotions.
Sometimes calm is surrounded
By grief and pain.
But these moments of solitude and introspection
Remind me to find hope,
To seek out meaning in the chaos–
To cherish the memories you’ve left with me.
